Music Ministry

Music Ministry

Cantors are leaders of the congregation in common sacred song and in responsorial singing.  They serve God and the worshiping community in the act of singing the psalms and song texts, especially those drawn from and based on the Scriptures.  If interested in training to become a cantor, contact

Contemporary Music Ensemble is a group of parishioners that are dedicated to offering their voices and instrumental talents every Sunday throughout the year at the 10:30 a.m. Sunday Mass in the church.  The ensemble range in age from early twenties to senior-members, and have been a part of the music ministry at St. Michael’s for many years.  The ensemble rehearses on Thursday evenings in the music room of the church from 7:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.  If interested in joining the ensemble, contact Mr. Jim Kraus, director of the ensemble, at (410) 665-1054 X 110 or jkraus@smoverlea.org

Our Contemporary Music Ensemble

Funeral Choir ministers not only with their music but also with their presence at the funeral liturgies.  The choir assists those who may be too sad to sing and provide the sound of a singing congregation.  Funeral Masses and Memorial Masses are usually scheduled at 11:00 a.m. on weekdays and Saturdays. Traditional Choir is the choral ensemble of our parish community that provides musical leadership and sings music of many styles from chant to contemporary to help create and support a spirit of prayer in our liturgies.  The choir sings the 9:00 a.m. Sunday Mass in the church, plus the Midnight Mass of Christmas and the liturgies of Holy Week.  The choir rehearses on Thursday evenings from September to May in  the church from 7:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.  Membership is open to any member of the parish. For more information contact Mr. Jim Kraus, Director of Music and Liturgy, jkraus@smoverlea.org or (410) 665-1054 X 110.

 

Spanish Schola leads the singing for the Sunday Spanish Mass in the Church at 12:30 p.m.  The choir under the direction of Carlos Cardona rehearses on Thursday evenings from 7:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. in the Marian Chapel.  The choir is always seeking new members to enhance the music for the Spanish liturgies whether you sing or play an instrument.  For more information on the Spanish Schola contact Carlos Cardona before or after one of the Sunday 12:30 p.m. Spanish Masses.
